Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Gloucester
This week we celebrate, above all, how unbelievably fortunate we are to have had our Queen rule for 70 years.
As both Monarch and Head of State HM Queen Elizabeth II has set the great global example of integrity, service and resilience. Has any other nation been so blessed for so long?
We can all celebrate Britain's first ever Platinum Jubilee this week in style. Even the weather looks likely to smile again too.
All over the country bunting and flags are up - Regent St in London got there early.
One sad note is that the wonderful jubilee cover on our Cathedral's postbox (thanks to Miju Wools) has been stolen. Wouldn't it be nice if it was replaced...
But more positively the Brunswick Rd library is beautifully dressed, homes are plastered with bunting & we've presented the traditional lamprey pie (now made of Gloucester Old Spot) to the Queen via HM Lord Lieutenant.
The icing on many cakes is of course the Tall Ships Festival, back in The Docks - and the Best Fest of this kind in the country. Some of the ships have already arrived.
And there are also lots of parties in Gloucester. We can't know about every event, but here's a list of street parties, we've drawn up from road closures the County Council has announced. (PS walking or cycling avoids any traffic jams - as Alan Myatt and I show here).
There are also some great digital adverts for some of the most exciting looking parties, like Tredworth High St and Quedgeley activities here:
I hope every constituent has a very happy few days celebrating a remarkable Jubilee, a great monarch and a chance to all pull together in the great spirit of community and love thy neighbour.
Happy Jubilee weekend!
