‘It welcomes sheep not Facebook’, Gloucester MP Richard Graham said, explaining the popularity of new independent pub Turk’s Head in Gloucester’s Southgate Street. And it’s that quirky individual approach that encourages the City MP to drop in on his way home and decide the Turk’s Head should be his candidate for the Parliamentary Pub of the Year Award.
‘Landlords Peter and Chris’, said Richard, ‘have created a new pub in a medieval building with masses of different ales and ciders and a stairway to Heaven: they welcome dogs and sheep but not Facebook, ‘Twatter’ or Morris dancing. It’s a little world where customers talk, play chess or the piano while drinking - and a haven of individuality in an increasingly bland world. That’s why I’ve put the Turks Head forward for Parliamentary Pub of the Year - and everyone who cares about pubs should go. Say hello to Dolly in the window for me when you do.’
