Gloucester this summer is packed with even more great family events from food and culture festivals to funfairs, than ever before. Here are some of the best I've seen and everything is free entry unless indicated.
Eatstravaganza
Friday 13th July – Saturday 11th August / Kings Square Gloucester
This new family friendly food festival will run every Friday to Sunday for 5 weeks. Traders confirmed so far include:
•Brother Thai: British Street Food Awards winners 2017
•Tukka Tuk: Indian street food from acclaimed chef Anand George
•Science Cream: Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream
•Puckin’ Poutine: Canadian fries with cheese curds and gravy
Orchard Street Food & Craft Market
4 Aug-5 Aug and 1 Sept-2 Sept / Gloucester Quays
The markets here have got a reputation for excellent food and drink along with arts and crafts, jewellery, home wear, plants and seasonal goods.
Summer Trail, Popular Family Wildlife Activity and Canal Cruises
21st July – 2nd Sept / Tuesdays – Sunday 10am – 4pm / National Waterways Museum
Adult £5.00 per ticket. Concession £4.00 per ticket. (5 and under) Free. (6-15 years) £3.60 per ticket. 2 Adults + 2 Children or 1 Adult + 3 Children £13.50 per ticket. Canal Cruises (variable ticket prices)
Easy to combine with a canal side walk visit to Llanthony Secunda Priory or Gloucester Quays Shopping. The family trail around the museum highlights some of the animals you may see out on the canal.
Gloucester Rhythm & Blues Festival
21st July – 29th July / Various City Centre Venues / Free
A long-running festival returns at various venues across the city. Café Rene is one of the places full of action.
Gloucester Carnival
21 July 2018 / Gloucester City Centre / Free
Gloucester Carnival winds its way through the city centre each year. It's a fabulous and vibrant time for all involved, especially the children. The procession (floats and entertainers) ends up in Gloucester Park. Live music and a fun fair to keep everyone entertained. Always fun.
Wilsons Fun Fair
20th July – 5th August / Gloucester Park
Bob Wilson’s travelling funfair has the biggest and best thrill machines and masses of children’s rides. Look out for Big Saver Tuesdays when all rides are £1!
Fireworks Spectacular
4th August / Gloucester Park
A free event at Gloucester Park. Come and join the amazing fireworks display, by the very same people behind the London 2012 Olympic fireworks. Music, entertainment, food and drink available before the fireworks which start at 9:40pm. Take a jersey in case the evening gets cooler.
Jamaican Independence Day
5th August / City Centre
Jamaican Independence day will be celebrated in Gloucester and will reflect the multi-culture of the city and its Jamaican community who live here. A lively time with plenty of music.
Gloucester v Dragons
Thursday 23rd August / 7:30pm / Kingsholm Stadium
The first game for Gloucester Rugby kicks off at Kingsholm at 19:30. The perfect game for those who like to watch rugby when it’s warm. Complete fixture list on

Retro Festival
25th August 2018
Historic vehicles, cars, motorbikes, scooters and commercial vehicles will line the streets of Gloucester. Westgate street will be themed from 1900’s to 1949, Northgate Street 1950’s, Eastgate Street 1960’s and Southgate Street 1970-1980’s.
Gloucester History Festival

I can’t be totally objective about this Festival as I created it, but if you share my view that Gloucester has masses of great heritage then come and enjoy it and see great national and local speakers and happenings all bringing History alive. Heritage Open Days
13th September – 16th September
Explore the vast heritage of Gloucester where many of the oldest and finest buildings will open their doors for free and allow walks, tours and concerts.
