The City Council has successfully prosecuted the landlord of a Tredworth property which was ‘unfit to live in’. The landlord was fined £2,000 and under new laws could also face being banned from operating altogether.
Together in Matson’s Vanessa Worrall, who runs the Redwell Centre, said “it’s important the Council does pursue rogue landlords because the price of housing means more people are renting and some landlords are taking advantage.”
Cllr Colin Organ, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning commented that banned landlords who carry on renting could face 6 months in prison or an unlimited fine. He said: “this is important to deal with the small number of landlords who are causing real problems.”
MP Richard said, “We’re trying to build lots more homes – look at Black Dog Way, Blackfriars and plans for Matson and Podsmead - and there is an important role for landlords, but only ithin the rules. I’m working closely with the city council to make sure we get the balance right.”
