Gloucester Residents have welcomed £3.75m secured to revamp Gloucester station. One wrote: “I’ve always hated using that underpass and am very pleased that its days are numbered.” Cllr Paul James said, “These new plans will make our station much more attractive.”
There will also be a new exit straight out onto Metz Way to reduce traffic and air pollution, and an upgraded station exterior and forecourt. Cllr Saj Patel said, “It’s important for our city that the station reflects a welcoming image. The improvements at the city’s transport hubs are well and truly on track.” Richard said, “The key now is to move fast to try and complete work by the end of 2020.”
The station will also see: a doubling of GWR services from Gloucester to London; 2 extra services on the Birmingham-Bristol line a day (or 704 a year) from 2019; and three-car turbo trains on service to Bristol. Lastly, the first phase of an additional car park on Great Western Road has recently been completed.
